In the last two weeks there have been four breakins in the area. One on Newburn Street, One on Elm Street, and two just outside the area. Please contact crimewatch@sumnerhillassociation.org if you with crime watch info.

A Crime Watch is neighbors helping neighbors and building our community.

In an effort to establish an ongoing crime watch in the Sumner Hill area the Crime Watch Committee has divided the hill into ten areas It is our hope that residents in each section will gather and someone will volunteer to become a neighborhood Captain.

A small amount of work is required at start up. The Sumner Hill neighborhood Captain establishes a phone tree and an e-mail tree. Neighborhoods are encouraged to meet with the Boston Police Dept Crime Watch officers and report back to their neighborhood.

Crimes in participating areas are reported to the area Captain, who in turn reports the event to the Crime Watch Chair of the Sumner Hill Assoc., who distributes the information to the general membership. And report to Boston Police Crime Watch Unit at E-13.Some crimes are obvious. Robberies, attacks, burglaries and car break-ins are of primary importance, but property vandalism and graffiti should also be reported.

There is urgency to organizing these groups. Attacks on pedestrians, house break-ins, and vandalism concern all of us. Please discuss setting up this mini-crime watch with your neighbors and chose a captain.

We urge each Crime Watch to send a representative to the Monthly Police-Community Relations Meeting at District 13 held on the First Thursday of every month.  Persons not affiliated with a Crime Watch may also attend this Meeting.  For more information, contact the District 13 Community Service Office at 617.343.5624.

There have been an increasing number of thefts of I-Pods and Mobile Phones around the T-Stations with the highest incidents at Ruggles Station. In particular the thieves target folks who come out of a T-Station with white plugs in their ears and their eyes glued to a phone screen. Easy targets. THe Transit Police are employing plain clothes officers at the T-Stops with some success.

Fed Ex, UPS, and the USPS are reporting a high increase in the number of delivered packaged being stolen. Make arrangements with your carrier to deliver to a neighbor, or deliver at a rear door.

Although outside the Sumner Hill area, a rash of car break-ins have occured in the Pondside area along Centre Street inward. E-13 Police report that in each of these many cases, a GPS unit was stolen.
